I hope you all had a wonderful Father's Day Weekend! I wanted to share this post since we celebrated this year by taking the whole family to the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give. It is an annual golf tournament that was held at Blythefield Country Club in Belmont, Michigan. We had a great time and I highly recommend families check this out in the future and add it to their list of Father's Day celebrations for next year and beyond.
I was so pleasantly surprised by how accommodating the entire event was for families with children. As parents of a four-year-old and a two-year-old, spending the day out requires planning, coordination, patience and sometimes, sheer willpower. Luckily, this event was well-organized and we planned our visit to beat the rush to avoid the peak crowds.
I highly recommend parking at the high school and taking the charter bus to the golf course. Our kids loved sitting up high and enjoyed the short ride and looking out the window as we made our way there. Plus, the high school lot is free! Upon arrival, we began our day at the J. Brewer's tent. Hitting the food tent before the lunch crowds at noon was definitely the way to go. We were able to navigate through the seated areas and find a spot to sit without much trouble. There were tons of yummy choices to pick from, including delicious potato patties from Rani Indian Cuisine, empanadas complete with spicy sauce from Pochi's Sweet Designs Colombian Café, chicken sliders and more.
Once our bellies were full, we headed to the Discovery Land children's area. The kids had a blast playing mini golf with their Dad. They even got to keep the golf ball after they played the three mini holes. There was a giant macaroni noodle to swing on, a slide and so much more. Of course, no children's activity zone is complete without snacks, and there were plenty complimentary snacks to choose from. It was hard to pull them away from this area for sure.
As we moved about the entire golf course throughout our day, we enjoyed stopping to watch the professional players. Our four-year-old in particular loved seeing the action and following the ball. We clapped as the golfers passed by and enjoyed watching along the way. We brought a single stroller for our two-year-old. I recommend a stroller for the littles. There is a lot of walking so plan to take breaks and stop at multiple points along the way.
The Meijer LPGA Classic is an ideal event for families and children. With a little patience and planning, it was a fantastic way to spend Father's Day weekend. We all had a blast!
